BOISE, Idaho - U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement on the anniversary of Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union:
“On the anniversary of their independence from the Soviet Union, the people of Ukraine continue their pursuit of freedom through their fight against Russian aggression. While today marks the anniversary of the modern state, Ukraine existed as a nation for centuries, persevering against all manner of oppression.
“Now, six months after Russia launched its full scale attempt to take over their country, the Ukrainian people are claiming their independence once and for all. Their desire for freedom and the bravery with which they fight proves that when the Ukrainian people win this war, no one will be able to take that freedom away. I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure Ukraine has what it needs to win.”
