Risch, Coons Discuss Competition with China at Halifax International Security Forum

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – U.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Chris Coons (D-Del.), a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, participated in a moderated discussion entitled #StandTogetherOnChina at the Halifax International Security Forum today.

“China is, and has to be, our major foreign policy issue. It’s something that we’re all focused on,” said Risch. “This is a 21st century problem that will go on long after we’re gone. People need to roll up their sleeves and commit to doing this for the long term. The only way it gets done is if we all stick together on this.”

“As the United States continues to compete with China, we have to broaden our tools, we have to broaden our reach, and we have to do it together with our allies and partners in Europe, the Indo-Pacific, and the rest of the world,” Coons said

Risch and Coons’ full conversation will be available on the Halifax International Security Forum website here later today.
