Read Out: June 5 Committee Business Meeting

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today held a committee business meeting during which members approved two nominations, nine bills, and one resolution.

Chairman Risch on Senate Foreign Relations Committee members vote to approve the nominations of Mr. Chris Pratt to be assistant secretary of state for Political-Military affairs and Mr. Michael DeSombre to be assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs:

“Today, my colleagues and I passed another two of President Trump’s national security nominees through our committee, bringing the total number of nominees passed to 33. I am proud of our expedient work to approve nominees and legislation that will make America safer and more prosperous. I’m thankful to Mr. Pratt and Mr. DeSombre for their willingness to serve and look forward to working with them to protect American national security.”

Today, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed:

Two Nominations:
• Mr. Chris Pratt to be assistant secretary of state for political-military affairs
• Mr. Michael DeSombre to be assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs

• S.1579 - Providing Appropriate Recognition and Treatment Needed to Enhance Relations (“PARTNER”) with ASEAN, CERN, and PIF Act (Risch, Duckworth)
• S.1397 - International Quantum Research Exchange Act (Young, Shaheen)
• S.1463 - Finding Opportunities for Resource Exploration (“ORE”) Act (Young, Coons)
• S.1731 - Combating PRC Overseas and Unlawful Networked Threats through Enhanced Resilience (COUNTER) Act, with an amendment in the nature of a substitute (Ricketts, Coons)
• S. 1780 - Mexico Security Assistance Accountability Act (McCormick, Kelly)
• S.1883 - Defending International Security by Restricting Unlawful Partnerships and Tactics (“DISRUPT”) Act (McCormick, Coons)
• S. 1990- Taiwan Non-Discrimination Act (McCormick, Rosen)

One resolution:
• S.Res.227- A resolution condemning Hamas for its premeditated, coordinated, and brutal terrorist attacks on October 7, 2023, against Israel and demanding that Hamas immediately release all remaining hostages and return them to safety, and for other purposes. (Young, Rosen)
