WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today met with Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein in the U.S. Capitol.

“It is always an honor to host King Abdullah in the Capitol. Jordan remains a vital U.S. partner in a tough neighborhood.

“The most immediate concern we discussed is Gaza. It’s imperative we eliminate Hamas and move on. The Palestinian people will never prosper while Hamas uses them as a pawn in their struggle for power. Unfortunately, it is still unclear who will govern the Palestinians after this conflict. The Palestinian Authority’s reforms so far have done little to address pay for slay or other concerns. If we are to have a viable PA entity, pay for slay must be abolished, Abbas must relinquish the presidency to a credible replacement, and it must cease its UN membership bid.”
