Risch Joins Effort to Freeze $6 Billion Payment to Iran Immediately

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, this week cosponsored legislation to block Iran from accessing the $6 billion in funds that the Biden Administration released in August.

“Iran is Hamas’ number one supporter and the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism. Between lax sanctions enforcement and the unfreezing of funds, it’s unconscionable that the Biden Administration continues to pursue such a disastrous Iran policy. The decision to unfreeze $6 billion was completely unacceptable and has made Americans and our partners less safe,” said Risch. “I’m proud to join legislation this week that will immediately, and permanently, freeze these funds. We should never be aiding a regime that funds terror organizations like Hamas.”

Text of the legislation can be found here.
