Risch Discusses Keystone XL Pipeline, Canadian Citizens Detained in China with Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement after a phone conversation with Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau yesterday:

“I was glad to speak with Foreign Minister Garneau yesterday regarding a number of issues important to both the United States and Canada. We discussed the Biden Administration’s recent efforts to block the Keystone XL pipeline, and I reaffirmed my commitment to defending this job-creating project that our northern ally supports. Additionally, we discussed the continued detainment of Canadian citizens Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor in China. It is long past time China upholds the rule of law and releases these innocent Canadians, and the United States will continue to stand in solidarity with the Canadian people until they are brought home.”
