February 2nd, 2026: The Week Ahead

WASHINGTON – This week, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will convene for two subcommittee hearings.

1. Subcommittee Hearing: The subcommittee on Near East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism, chaired by Sen. Dave McCormick (R-Penn.), will convene for a hearing titled Countering Terrorism in North Africa: Opportunities and Challenges. Witnesses will include Mr. Robert Palladino, a senior State official of Near Eastern affairs, and LTC Joel Borkert, deputy coordinator at State for the Bureau of Counterterrorism.

2. Subcommittee Hearing: The Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation, chaired by Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), will convene for a hearing titled A Pathway to European Energy Security. Witnesses will include The Honorable Geoffrey Pyatt, senior managing director for energy and critical minerals at McLarty Associates, and Mr. Dan Byers, vice president for policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Energy Institute.
