Risch Applauds Committee Passage of Resolutions on U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, Kara-Murza, ANZUS Anniversary

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today applauded committee passage of three resolutions:

On the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit resolution:

“The U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit is an opportunity for America to connect Africa’s leaders with the best of what American business, academia, civil society, and African diaspora living in the United States can offer,” said Risch. “I introduced this resolution to send a bipartisan message of support and to provide important congressional input into how the United States can use the Summit to have a more comprehensive and sustained engagement with our African partners.”

S.Res.538 was introduced on March 8, 2022 . Text of the resolution as introduced can be found here .

On the Vladimir Kara-Murza resolution:

“Vladimir Kara-Murza’s brave, unbiased reporting on Putin’s brutal war in Ukraine shed a light on the regime’s atrocities, and his unjust arrest last month is a testament to Putin’s fear of the Russian people knowing the truth,” said Risch. “This resolution expresses solidarity with Mr. Kara-Murza and others in Russia who are punished for exercising their fundamental freedoms of speech, assembly, and opposition to the regime. The Biden Administration should do all that it can to help ensure Mr. Kara-Murza and other political prisoners are immediately released.”

S.Res.632 was introduced on May 16, 2022. Text of the resolution as introduced can be found here .

On the ANZUS 70th anniversary resolution:

“Over the last century, the armed forces of both Australia and New Zealand have made significant contributions to peace and security across the globe,” said Risch. “The 70 th anniversary of the Australia, New Zealand, United States Security Treaty is an appropriate opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to strengthening security collaboration among our nations in the years ahead.”

S.Res.341 was introduced on August 7, 2021 . Text of the resolution as introduced can be found here .
