EVENT: “Playing Politics with Humanitarian Protections”

You are invited:

On behalf of Senator Bob Menendez (D–N.J.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC), we would like to invite you to a Congressional briefing on Thursday, November 7, 2019 on a new report being published by the SFRC Democratic Staff. The report, titled “Playing Politics with Humanitarian Protections”, is the culmination of an SFRC investigation commissioned by Ranking Member Menendez into the State Department’s role in the Trump Administration’s politicized decision to terminate the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designations for El Salvador, Honduras, and Haiti.

The SFRC report includes analysis of dozens of internal State Department communications—troubling letters, memos, and embassy cables—that ultimately led President Trump to wrongfully terminate the TPS designations for the three countries. The report also documents how electoral calculations were injected into the Trump Administration’s TPS decisions to the detriment of U.S. national security and the safety and well-being of nearly 400,000 TPS beneficiaries in the United States and their U.S. citizen children.
