WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, announced that she will lead a bipartisan congressional delegation to the 17th annual Halifax International Security Forum. She will be joined by U.S. Senators Peter Welch (D-VT), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Chris Coons (D-DE), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), John Hoeven (R-ND), Angus King (I-ME) and Kevin Cramer (R-ND), as well as additional members of Congress and national security leaders from around the world, to discuss American security priorities and deepen strategic cooperation with U.S. allies and partners.
“I’m proud to once again lead the United States’ bipartisan delegation to the Halifax International Security Forum,” said Ranking Member Shaheen. “It’s especially important this year that Congress shows up and underscores our nation’s commitment to our allies and partners. This marks the second bipartisan delegation that I will be leading to Canada this year—a show of our shared commitment in Congress to strengthening the bilateral relationship and deepening our security cooperation. From Russia’s continued assault on Ukraine to escalating challenges from authoritarian regimes, the Halifax International Security Forum remains one of the most important opportunities to strengthen coordination with democratic partners and advance our shared security priorities.”
At the forum, lawmakers will participate in discussions on strengthening U.S. leadership with allies and partners as democratic institutions come under strain around the world. Conversations will focus on shared security challenges posed by authoritarian governments, including ongoing conflicts, regional instability and efforts to undermine democratic norms. Members will also examine broader geopolitical trends, from economic and technological competition to emerging security risks, that have direct implications for U.S. national interests and the stability of our partners. Shaheen has led a bipartisan delegation to the Halifax International Security Forum for the past seven years.
