Ranking Member Shaheen Statement on the 50th Anniversary of the End of the Vietnam War

WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War:

“On the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, I commemorate five decades of reconciliation and transformation in U.S.-Vietnam relations. Once divided by conflict, the U.S. and Vietnam now stand together as strategic partners committed to peace, prosperity and regional stability. Over the past 50 years, the U.S.-Vietnam relationship has grown into one of the most dynamic and constructive partnerships in the Indo-Pacific. From expanding trade and educational exchanges to strengthening maritime security and climate resilience, our two nations have united to focus on areas for greater and deeper bilateral cooperation.

“Today’s commemoration offers a moment to reflect on the deep pain endured, while also recognizing the healing that has followed. It is a time of remembrance and respect—for those who served, those who lost their lives, and for the generations of Americans and Vietnamese who have worked to build a brighter future from the ashes of war.”
