Ranking Member Shaheen Statement on Joint Resolutions of Disapproval of Military Sales to Qatar and the UAE

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement after voting to support two Joint Resolutions of Disapproval regarding proposed foreign military sales to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates:

“Trump and his family must not be allowed to solicit and receive gifts from foreign governments while in office. Doing so subverts U.S. foreign policy and national security to their corruption and calls into question the integrity of U.S. policy. Our partnerships are key to advancing U.S. interests and must remain free from corruption and abuse. For example, our work with Qatar has played a critical role in getting hostages, including Americans, freed from Hamas. When Trump demands gifts, he compromises these important relationships and risks our national security. For that reason, I voted in favor of today’s Joint Resolutions of Disapproval.”
