Menendez Introduces Bipartisan Resolution Honoring Greece’s 197th Independence Day

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, introduced a Senate resolution honoring the 197th anniversary of Greek Independence Day and celebrating the traditions of cooperation and friendship that continue to remain strong between the two nations.

“It is a pleasure to once again introduce this resolution to join the Greek-American community in New Jersey and across the United States in celebrating Greek Independence day and a democracy that dates back centuries. Greek ideas and ideals continue having an enormous influence and I am honored to stand with the Hellenic community to honor their cultural heritage and contributions. I extend my best wishes to them in support of democratic governance and the important role Greece has played in the community of nations throughout its 197 years of independence.”

The Resolution:

  • Extends warm congratulations and best wishes to the people of Greece on their nation’s 197th Independence Day
  • Expresses support for the principles of democratic governance to which the people of Greece are committed;
  • Acknowledges the important role that Greece has played throughout the wider European Region and around the world
