Declaraciones del Senador Menéndez Sobre los Ataques de Rusia contra Ucrania

UNION CITY, N.J. – El Senador Bob Menéndez (D-N.J.), Presidente del Comité De Relaciones Exteriores del Senado de Estados Unidos, emitió esta noche las siguientes declaraciones en reacción a los ataques no provocados de Rusia contra Ucrania:

“Esta noche, tengo un nudo en la garganta por el pueblo de Ucrania. A manera que oramos por ellos en este oscuro momento de gran incertidumbre, está claro que la historia demostrará que la decisión de Vladimir Putin de sacrificar un sinnúmero de vidas ucranianas y rusas fue tomada por miedo – miedo a permitir que una nación vecina independiente y soberana busque la democracia y la libertad.

“Indisputablemente, este cobarde ataque no fue provocado pero esclarece para el mundo entero la necesidad de expulsar a los actuales dirigentes del Kremlin de la comunidad internacional. El día de hoy debe marcar un cambio histórico en la forma en que el mundo ve y trata al déspota de Moscú.

“Estados Unidos y nuestros aliados han formado con éxito una coalición internacional para contrarrestar la agresión rusa; ahora no nos podemos dar el lujo de quedarnos de brazos cruzados al ver sufrir a hombres, mujeres y niños ucranianos inocentes. Como presidente del Comité de Relaciones Exteriores del Senado, me comprometo a garantizar que Estados Unidos cumpla con su responsabilidad de imponer las máximas consecuencias a Putin, a la economía rusa y a quienes hayan permitido y facilitado este atropello total de la soberanía de Ucrania.

“Los ucranianos son un pueblo resiliente y valiente. Sabemos que defenderán su país y su libertad. Y nosotros también seguiremos firme a su lado. Pero esta noche, nuestras oraciones están con toda una nación, joven y mayor, que se niega a permitir que un tirano utilice el poder militar para imponer su voluntad en Ucrania”.

SFRC CHAIRMAN MENENDEZ STATEMENT ON RUSSIA’S ATTACK ON UKRAINE

UNION CITY, N.J. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, tonight issued the following statement in reaction to Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine:

“Tonight, my heart is heavy for the people of Ukraine. As we pray for them in this dark moment of uncertainty, it is clear that history will prove Vladimir Putin’s decision to sacrifice the lives of countless Ukrainians and Russians was made out of fear—fear of allowing a neighboring independent, sovereign nation to pursue democracy and freedom.

“This unprovoked attack has brought into sharp focus the need to expel the current Kremlin leadership from the international community. Today must mark a historical shift in how the world views and deals with the despot in Moscow.

“The United States and our allies have successfully galvanized an international coalition to counter Russian aggression; now we must refuse to stand by and watch innocent Ukrainian men, women, and children suffer. As Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I am committed to ensuring that the United States upholds our responsibility to exact maximum costs on Putin, the Russian economy, and those who enabled and facilitated this trampling of Ukraine’s sovereignty.

“Ukrainians are a resilient, determined people. We know that they will stand up for their country and their freedom. And we will continue to stand with them. But tonight, our prayers are with an entire nation, young and old, who refuse to let a tyrant use military might to impose his will on Ukraine.”
