Menendez Statement on 100 Days of War in Ukraine

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement on the 100th day since Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war in Ukraine:

“For 100 days, the people of Ukraine have inspired the world with their incredible resolve and resistance to Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked assault. Likewise, I have been incredibly proud to witness the way the American people rallied behind this just cause and provided unprecedented support for our friends in Ukraine. That is why as this war rages on, the United States must continue to show our absolute commitment to standing with the people of Ukraine in this existential battle for democracy.

“What we know now is Putin did not expect the world to unite against his oppressive and violent authoritarianism. Our partners and allies around the world have devised the most impactful sanctions regime in history, we are coordinating arms sales and humanitarian aide packages to Ukraine, all-while supporting efforts to hold perpetrators of war crimes accountable and opening our doors to Ukrainian refugees.

“As Putin insists on dragging Russia into this strategic blunder of historic proportions, we are more united in our support of Ukraine because it is a harbinger of the kind of aggression the rest of the world could face if we do not support those fighting for our values. The resolve of the West is something Putin should never underestimate again.”
