Chairman Kerry On The Constitutional Referendum In Kenya

Washington, DC –Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-MA) issued the following statement in response to yesterday’s constitutional referendum in Kenya:

“Yesterday’s referendum on the new constitution in Kenya was an important step forward for the nation’s democratic process. Provisional results and statements by Kenyan leaders indicate the referendum will probably pass. While we are still waiting for official results, I support the thousands of Kenyan citizens who participated in this peaceful mechanism for political change.  It is now important for Kenya to move forward on the reforms embodied in this historic document and toward peaceful elections in the future.”
