Lugar Requests Extension on White River Comment Period

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar today wrote a letter to the Army Corps of Engineers requesting a 30 day extension of the comment period for the White River North 3B flood protection and mitigation project.

“I have received several letters, email messages and telephone calls in my office from residents of Indianapolis concerned about the structures proposed for this 3B project and the limited 30 day time period they have been given to consider the full ramifications and long-term impact of this proposed flood protection project on this important residential area located near Butler University,” said Lugar.

The White River, North Indiana Flood Damage Reduction Project began in 1996 and the City of Indianapolis and Corps of Engineers signed a record of decision on September 8, 1997, to begin  work on a design and construction of flood reduction improvements to the Broad Ripple, Warfleigh, and South Warfleigh communities.   Two phases of the three phase project design have completed construction and the 3B project is now under consideration for completion.
